Executive Chef/Owner/Pizza Master Tyler DeGroff understands good food+ good friends= good times. His pizza & other dishes invoke a high-quality, gourmet experience, while allowing for a fun & laid-back atmosphere.
Tyler was born and raised in Upstate NY. His love affair with food & cooking began when he stumbled his way into one of Albany, NY’s finest bistros. He worked his way up from prep cook to Chef-de-Cuisine, learning everything he could about global cuisine. He was consulting for another restaurant when he found his passion for pizza. His first day of training was preparing over 100 dough balls, reaching for dough-ball perfection, before ever putting sauce on one. He understands how all aspects of a pizza...from the consistency of the dough, the simple freshness of the sauce, and the amount of turns in the oven play a role in the final product. Eventually, he opened his own farm-to-table bistro. After two years of operation & building his custom mobile kitchen & pizza trailer in upstate NY, the COVID-19 pandemic hit. He knew he & his family needed a change & a little southern hospitality in their lives… they moved south to endeavor in a food truck & catering business. Ultimately landing among the pines in Eastern North Carolina, Chef Tyler lives on beautiful Roanoke Rapids Lake with his wife/business partner Mindy and their four young children. The Hen & The Hound Wood-Fired Pizza & Chef Services caters to Halifax County, Warren County & the greater Lake Gaston area.
